UK Global Talent Visa FAQ: Everything You Need to Know

Answers to the most common questions about costs, timelines, eligibility, dependants, and the application process.

How much does the UK Global Talent Visa cost in total?

The main costs are: Endorsement application (£524), Visa application (£192), and the Immigration Health Surcharge (£1,035 per year). For a 5-year visa, the IHS alone is £5,175. Total: approximately £5,891–£6,391 depending on dependants. Priority processing adds £500. These are government fees only — preparation services like TalentPath are separate.

How long does the entire process take?

From start to visa decision: 4–7 months typically. Preparation (gathering evidence, writing narratives, obtaining letters): 2–4 months. Endorsement body review: 5–8 weeks. Visa application after endorsement: 3–8 weeks (or 5 working days with priority service). You have 3 months after endorsement to submit your visa application.

Do I need a job offer?

No. The Global Talent Visa is one of the few UK visas that does not require an employer sponsor or job offer. You're endorsed as an individual based on your achievements. Once in the UK, you can work for any employer, freelance, or start your own company.

    Can I bring my family?

Yes. Your spouse/partner and children under 18 can apply as dependants. They'll get permission to work, study, and access the NHS. Each dependant pays their own visa application fee and IHS.

    Can I switch employers freely?

Yes. Unlike Skilled Worker visa holders, Global Talent visa holders have no restrictions on employers. You can switch jobs, hold multiple jobs, freelance, or start a business without notifying the Home Office.

What happens if my endorsement is rejected?

You can apply again — there's no limit on the number of attempts. However, you'll need to pay the endorsement fee again. Most rejections are due to insufficient evidence rather than a fundamental lack of talent, so strengthening your portfolio and reapplying is often successful.

Can I apply from inside the UK?

Yes. If you're already in the UK on another visa (e.g., Skilled Worker, Student), you can switch to Global Talent without leaving. Your dependants can also switch at the same time.

How does the Global Talent Visa lead to settlement (ILR)?

Exceptional Talent holders can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain after 3 years. Exceptional Promise holders can apply after 5 years. Once you have ILR, you can apply for British citizenship after 12 months.

Is there an English language requirement?

No. The Global Talent Visa has no English language requirement, which is another advantage over the Skilled Worker visa.

What's the difference between Global Talent and Skilled Worker visa?

The key differences: Global Talent doesn't need a job offer or sponsor; you can freely switch employers or freelance; there's no minimum salary threshold; settlement is faster (3 years vs 5); and there's no English language requirement. The trade-off is that you must demonstrate exceptional talent or promise in your field.
